Summer IS Coming... and For Some Families, That Takes Planning

The weather is changing again. The evenings are longer, the wind feels different, and summer is slowly starting to show up around us.
For a lot of families, summer means excitement.
Trips.
Pool days.
Camps.
Last-minute plans.
But for many special needs families, summer can also bring a different kind of feeling.
Planning.
Trying to figure out what your child can realistically participate in. Wondering which places will truly understand their needs. Searching for activities that feel safe, supportive, sensory-friendly, and manageable for everyone involved.
Sometimes that isn’t the easiest thing to find.
The other day while my son was at equine therapy, I spent part of the session walking nearby and thinking about how much behind-the-scenes work families quietly carry every single day. So much of parenting in this space involves researching, coordinating, adapting, preparing, and hoping something will be a good fit.
And honestly, it can feel overwhelming sometimes.
Especially going into a new season.
Over the years, I’ve spent countless hours searching for resources, therapies, programs, activities, support systems, and services, both professionally and personally. I know how exhausting it can feel to scroll through endless websites, Facebook groups, and recommendations trying to figure out where to even begin.
Sometimes families don’t need more pressure.
They just need help narrowing things down.
That’s part of what Rising Calm is becoming.
A place for honest reflection, practical support, and helping families bridge the gap between “I know I need something” and “I finally know where to start.”
As summer gets closer, I’ll be sharing more ideas, supports, and resources for families navigating special needs, routines, activities, therapies, and everyday life.
And if you need help locating resources or activities in your area for your child this summer, that’s something I now offer through Rising Calm as well.
Because sometimes having someone help carry the search can make all the difference.
